I don't mind the article stream. It makes it easier to deal with cross posts from users that belong to both communities, but "piping" the comments over and disintegrating the discussion is not so good. Can't we just have the articles without the comments?

I'm not familiar enough with twitter to know if you are forced to see all responses or tweets directed @ you. Do they offer tweet filtering, can you filter out foul language, or is it left up to the individuals to block or filter certain accounts? I'm not saying everyone is this way, and I'm not directing this towards Zelda in any way, but it seems a lot of people who might be drawn to twitter and other social media are really self absorbed, and thus more likely to be assholes. These assholes then get to broadcast towards others whether those other users deserve it or not.

Since they split, is the relationship amicable? Are the projects contributing and benefiting from one another? If not, I guess I'll start recommending LibreOffice vs OpenOffice, though I've been using Open since before it was Open (Star Office). Sounds as if LibreOffice has cleaned up a lot of mess. Is it just coincidence that openSSL was forked as libreSSL as well?

They could and I think they should offer a better desktop version for the masses, but CentOS (I'm not willing to pay for RHEL) works fine for me. I've used Fedora off and on over the years, but in my opinion it breaks too much.

I said SOME Blurays due to the copy protection employed, specifically BD+ discs I own. I was not aware, but it appears libbdplus has been released since December 2013. It looks like MakeMKV is also using BD+. I'm impressed.

I think our society has gotten to the point where they think everything is useless unless it's new, and that simply isn't the case. I've got a desktop I built in 2004 which I somehow coaxed to accept a 1TB drive and had to replace the PSU. But it runs Linux very well. My other box is from 2009. Why throw either of them away when there is still potential for legit use? The newest tech I bought was my tablet back in 2012. But what do I know...I'm just using a dumb phone.

Ya, perhaps he will be able to turn the company around. I think the whole phone/tablet/mobile OS was a waste and unwelcome effort as well. They seriously just need to focus on their desktop, and fix it's many problems and security holes. If they slimmed that down and secured it well, they would have a real gem to work with. I hate to admit this because I run Linux on everything I use except my desktop at work as I have no choice, but Microsoft does hold the largest share when it comes to what OSs people run. The only thing I can't do on my Linux boxes is run some of my Bluray movies. For an OS that is completely free, Linux has come a long way. Microsoft needs to get its act together, or the majority will leave like I have.

With the latest style changes and cleanup, I think they can be taken more seriously. I'm fairly impressed after watching the videos. Now the only question is how's performance on older hardware. They stated they rewrote some major pieces. Hopefully it's leaner and meaner.

It looks like they may have finally removed that dragon. I've got nothing against mascots, but I must say it didn't really fit the rest of the UI. He'd show up randomly at shutdown/logout.

I haven't used KDE very much since 3.5. When KDE 4 came out it seemed more sluggish and bloated on one of my now well aged systems. I switched to XFCE for all systems, and have been quite pleased. I may give KDE 5 a try on one of my newer boxes.

I agree it's not good to put all of your eggs in one basket. Look at the huge target society has developed that is Windows. No matter who the hackers may be, if we focus on using one single OS or software bundle, we are making their lives easier, and the target larger. There needs to be competing or at least different, friendly, options in OS and software. For a distribution that touts security and anonymity, they really dropped the ball. Zero-days are no joke. Diversity here will help by offering other, possibly more secure alternatives.

This also reminds me of a change they made in Android not too long ago where they randomized the place in memory where running applications were stored. Prior to that I think it was some standard location that allowed for easier exploitation.

I've got a coworker that routinely takes smoke breaks outside at least twice a day, and every time he enters our lab he reeks of smoke. So, not only does he smell like an ash tray, but we are subjected to breathing in the harmful residual particles...great. They already make them smoke outside under a car port type shelter at least 100ft away from the office building entrance. How can you remove the residue from a smoker before they enter the building? I think we are all just subject to some degree of health degradation due to their unhealthy habit.

Apparently Aereo is asking that, since the Supreme Court declared it a "cable company", it should immediately receive cable company status, which the FCC has been previously reluctant to grant to internet-only companies.
The Supreme Court and FCC should have to eat their words now and grant the cable status. Don't give them ketchup either!

I appreciate the option to use images from stories, and I think it has merit. I'm also thankful that the icons may still be utilized. I prefer the icons, and I'm not too picky about the variety or if they exactly match the article. On the flip side, the accompanying article images chosen by the other sites' original posters or whoever may not accurately reflect the news either. Perfection in anything may never be reached, options are excellent. :)

I'm using Chrome with pipelight . The only other issue is that I need to open the chrome dev console and spoof as a Windows Chrome browser agent right before starting the Netflix stream. It has worked amazingly well. I've never had it crash, kill the stream, or anything.

If someone cares to develop some bastardized version of pipelight for elinks, I'd test the hell outta that.

This is probably the most amazing thing I've seen in a very long time. I just watched the YERT video, and if everything they stated is accurate, I'm sold. We need to invest in this.
  • Prevents icy roads with built in heaters
  • Eliminates fading road paint which can make it difficult to see at night along with the waste of money and chemicals to create and reapply said paint
  • Eliminates a large dependancy on petrolium for use in asphalt
  • Enables us to harness energy from the sun to do all of this while giving us the possibility of powering the entire country via our roads...things that just sit there year after year and cost us money can now pay for themselves and offer us energy in return!
  • Reduction or elimination of Coal/Nuclear power for something clean

I've used openSUSE off and on over the passed decade or so v9.1-12.x. I was once a much bigger fan of theirs. I just ran into too many broken dependencies in their repos, and went elsewhere. I think the use of CentOS at work also contributed to the shift. Maybe I got tired of the bleeding edge. openSUSE isn't bad. I just think it needs some more polishing.

It is rather sad that we let things like this continue to happen. It's even sadder that society won't utter a single cry until they miss the new episode of Honey Boo Boo. I'm already tied to Comcast with a damned iron ball and chain. I'm already paying more money to get a faster tiered connection. I already cancelled my TV 3 years ago because they were charging a MST, I can't just pay for 1 channel, and the only show or channel I cared about was AMC. Screw Honey Boo Boo and the rest of the garbage that litters the cable spectrum. They don't offer channels a-la-carte because of all the deals that make up the packages they shovel at us. So I went with NetFlix, and was happy until recently. Then ISPs started throttling the streaming traffic and whining because nobody wants their services, cable TV or XFinity on Demand.

It makes no sense talking about fast lanes, slow lanes, and different types of packets, shaping, throttling, etc. As I mentioned, I'm ALREADY PAYING FOR HIGHER TIERED SPEEDS!!! I love Pipedot, but if this shit continues, I may very well quit Comcast and home internet completely.

In the mid-late 90's I found this beast for $5. It just continued to boot loop for no apparent reason, so I opened it up and tinkered with it. I was never able to fix it, though it helped me learn about the internals of a computer. I ended up taking the hard drive out and putting it in a 386. I kept the 80286 AMD processor as well. I think I still have it somewhere.
